St. Christopher’s Choir at 46 years!

Each Sunday from September to June the 11:30 Mass is enhanced by the choral music of St. Christopher’s Choir. Additionally, the choir members sing at special liturgies throughout the year including Holy Week, Easter Vigil, Tenebrae and the Christmas Eve Midnight Mass. This year the choir will present a mini concert before the Advent Nativity Pageant on December 16th. Some members have been practicing for months on the hand bells to play the “Carol of the Bells,” a traditional Ukrainian tune, for this Christmas season. It is dedicated to Ukraine as a prayer for peace.

Seven new members joined the choir this year adding to the soprano section and creating a tenor section for the first time in many years. The choir now can once again sing pieces in four-part harmony.

2024 will bring changes to the choir. Music Director James Montalbano will be retiring in January. James is a life-long parishioner of St. Christopher’s who attended St. Christopher’s School. He first started accompanying the choir in the late 1970’s under choir director and founder Fr. Peter Van Nguyen. He became parish organist in 1986 and Music and Choir director in 1990. We do not know who will succeed him, but Jim will always remain in our hearts for his great talent, compassion and friendship. We all wish him well as he enters this new phase of his life.
